Introducing OMPHOBBY M7R – Engineered for Champions!
In late 2023, OMPHOBBY redefined the 700 game with the introduction of the M7. A helicopter that, from the get go, has proven to be virtually bullet proof, indestructible in the air, and to this day, delivers a flight performance that could immediately compete at the very top, delivering world-class performance. With its incredible presence in the air, superior flight characteristics, ultra-quiet drivetrain, extremely easy maintenance, and tool-free adjustable belt drive, M7 has quickly become the favorite helicopter of its class for countless pilots around the world.
Now, two years later, we’re back to refine the M7 into its ultimate competition form, upgraded with everything we have learned in helicopter development to this point: This is M7R, one helicopter to rule them all!
Weight Optimization
M7R’s primary focus lies in zero-compromise weight optimization. While the core structure remains an M7 at heart, many parts have been thoroughly optimized and refined. Countless hours of careful FEA simulation have allowed us to shave 200 grams off the M7R airframe compared to M7, without compromising durability and performance in flight. This substantial leap makes M7R one of the lightest, lowest-inertia, fully-fledged 700 class helicopters on the market, ready to take anything you could throw at it in even the toughest competition. Rotor Systems
At the heart of every RC helicopter lie its rotor systems. Since its release, the M7 has set the benchmark with one of the cleanest, most precise, yet remarkably expansive and powerful flight performances on the market, and M7R will build on this achievement further. M7R will come with the same, great 32mm main rotor geometry that M7 used – retaining the same direct, linear and crisp control feel customers around the globe have come to love, all in a much sleeker and more elegant rotor head.
M7R will be equipped with POM rotor head inserts by default, which allow for extraordinarily crisp control response and stability from down low at 1100 RPM, all the way up to 2400 RPM! For those who can’t ever have enough control power, an optional 1:1 rotor geometry will be available at a later time.
Tail Assembly
No single main rotor is complete without an exceptional tail, which the M7 has delivered from day one. From its inception, the M7 tail assembly and belt drive have proven to be flawless and virtually indestructible in flight. M7R will proudly carry this legacy forward by retaining the M7’s trusted tail assembly, with only a few, yet notable upgrades:
- M7R’s tail rotor dampers are now made from a new, vastly more durable material, which not only greatly extends their service-life, but also increases tail control precision and response further by guiding the tail rotor disk more tightly.
- Additionally, the tail fin and tail boom are now silk screen printed, removing the need for the user to apply stickers to them.
Transmission System
The M7R transmission is built around our new, heavy-duty 122t main gear and matching 13t pinion, creating a bullet-proof drivetrain, ready for even the biggest motors and most demanding competition flights. Available pinions range from 11t to 15t, so you can always find the optimal gear ratio for your specific power system. The tail rotor ratio remains the proven 5:1, using the same 8mm belt and pulleys, tensioned by our helically driven belt tensioner. Where others lose teeth or require tools to adjust, M7R keeps going strong!
Lower Frame & Battery Design
A new lower frame, utilizing chamfered carbon panels and precision-machined aluminium battery rails, guarantees smooth battery insertion and removal every time. The change to flat plates opens up even more space for the biggest and heaviest batteries out there, as demanded by competition pilots of modern times. While this measure not only reduces the weight of the lower frame further compared to the previously used, molded carbon panels, it also simplifies maintenance and reduces repair cost for the user in the event of a rapid unscheduled disassembly.
For those who prefer to retain the original look, the M7’s molded lower frame panels can still be adapted to M7R with only minimal modification, as all mounting points remain the same.
Tail Boom Clamping System
The M7R’s revised tail boom clamping system keeps both the upper and lower frames perfectly aligned, while delivering maximum tail boom clamping force in any situation, even at the absolute edge of the flight envelope. The design now allows for removal of the entire lower frame while keeping the tail boom clamped, and likewise, the tail boom can now easily be removed without loosening a single screw on the lower frame.
Premium Materials
For our new flagship helicopter, we take pride in using only the most excellent materials. All highly loaded or rotating aluminum parts will be precision-machined from the same, extremely durable 7075 alloy we used on M7, while all remaining aluminium parts will continue to be made from high-quality 6061 T6 alloy. These choices guarantee exceptional durability and longevity in flight, in crashes and during maintenance.
Canopy Design
M7R brings our sleeker, lighter and more aerodynamic, canopy designs to the 700 class, including their superior flexibility and a much more durable paint coat. This new canopy follows the design philosophy of all modern OMPHOBBY canopies and effectively reduces the helicopter’s drag, allowing it to reach higher top speeds, and simplifies battery changes greatly, as it is much easier to remove and install.
At launch, M7R will feature the four signature colors of M5 and M6: Cosmic Orange, Solar Yellow, Nebula Pink, and Aurora Green. More colors will follow at a later time!
Parts Compatibility
While M7R has been optimized to the max, the airframe still retains all key component interfaces, ensuring exceptional parts compatibility and upgradeability with the original M7. This allows you to upgrade an M7 to M7R gradually, and in a pinch, many M7 components will still fit and function on the M7R.
Flight Performance
Flying the M7R, you will immediately notice the reduced weight and inertia of the model compared to the M7. Collective pitch moves the helicopter powerfully, yet with amazing precision and ease. Cyclic commands are executed more quickly, more precisely, more quietly, faster, and almost completely effortlessly, thanks to the reduced moments of inertia. Directional stability, resulting from requiring less main rotor blade angle to maneuver, is rock solid, and tail control is razor-sharp and ultra-precise.
